Once is not enough.
Once is not enough. Choosing salvaged, secondhand or antique furnishings, doors, trim, fixtures and other items that have been around the block a few times is often a smarter use of natural resources than buying new products. If keeping a “Shabby Chic” look try encapsulating old lead paint with a coat of non-gloss varnish. One caveat: Steer clear of single-pane windows, old toilets and used appliances that waste energy or water compared with their newly manufactured counterparts.
Recycle means many things:
- Take Care of the Earth
- Envision the world one day covered in landfills and take some action now to help
- Recycle plastic, glass, cardboard, aluminum, metal, paper/newspaper and whatever else you come up with
- Put thought and care into your spending related to origin of item, renewability of resources, non-profit affiliations, recycled materials and more reasons to think about
- Kay and family ask that you shop second-hand and consignment to support your neighbors (consignors, small business owners) as well as helping to reduce garbage because items are recycled
